Diagnosis Code pointer

What format am I supposed to use for the "diagnosis code pointer" box (24E)?  It only allows four characters.  When I was submitting handwritten forms, I would always do the full diagnosis code that I entered for 21A.  For example, F43.23.  But that doesn't fit in the fillable form.  Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Hi Erika,

Thank you for your question.  In 24E the "pointer" is related to the letters (A through L) and only allows up to "4 letters" to be submitted per service charge.   Check out the latest CMS 1500 Manual for more information on this by visiting the NUCC website.
